About Kankali Mandir

Kankali Mandir, also known as Taraknath Temple, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated in the town of Tarakeswar in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. Approximately 58 kilometers from Kolkata, it serves as a significant pilgrimage site for devotees from across the country.

Kankalitala Temple is a sacred 500 years old Shakti Peetha located at Kankalitala near Bolpur in Birbhum district. It is believed that the waist (kankal) of Goddess Sati fell here, making it one of the most powerful places to seek the Mother’s blessings. The temple is surrounded by peace, old trees, and the soft sound of flowing water nearby.

For centuries, devotees have come here to pray for protection, strength, and peace of mind. It’s not crowded like other pilgrimage spots, which gives visitors a calm, personal connection with the goddess. A puja at Kankalitala feels like a quiet conversation with the Divine Mother herself.

  • By Train: : Nearest Railway Station: Prantik (PNE) and Bolpur Shantiniketan (BHP) Direct trains from Howrah (Train No. 13017, 13053, 13015, 13031, 12347, 13011, 53047), Sealdah (Train No. 13187, 63141) , and Kolkata(Train No. 63141)
  • By Road: : Approx. 220 km from Kolkata, via NH114. It connects to State Highway 6 (SH6).
  • By Flight: : Nearest Airport: 1. Kolkata Airport (CCU), then travel by road(170km)/train. 2. Andal Airport (Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport – Durgapur) – then travel by road (80 km).

Best Times to Visit Kankalitala Temple, Birbhum
